  • History Convergence: Preparing for Maine's Bicentennial Wednesday, October 30  9:30 am - 2:30 pm Wilson Museum Hutchins Education Center

    We know your town, museum, historical society or library is planning to celebrate Maine's 200 years of statehood. Save the date of October 30 to learn more about Maine's official entry into the United States, how to better interpret Native history, share what you may already be planning for the Bicentennial, brainstorm new possibilities for the occasion, and discover how we can collaborate to make it the best Bicentennial ever.

    The History Convergence will take place on Wednesday, October 30, from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Wilson Museum's Hutchins Education Center at 112 Perkins Street. Here's a snapshot of the day's agenda:

    9:30 Registration, coffee/pastries
    9:30-10:30 Brainstorming the Bicentennial: Past and Perspectives on Maine at 200 with Dr. Liam Riordan, University of Maine
    10:45-11:30 Native Representations and Best Practices with Starr Kelly, Abbe Museum Curator
    11:40-12:00 Lightning-round session of current community plans
    12-1:20 Lunch and session Brainstorming Ideas for Your Commemoration with Julia Gray, Independent Consultant
    1:30-2:30 Creating Collaboration and a Virtual Castine History Tour with Castine History Partners
    2:30 Tour Castine's museums or take the Virtual Tour

    Cost is $10 per person to help defray lunch expenses. Register by October 28 so we are able to have an accurate head count for lunch. You may pay on-line or by sending a check payable to the Wilson Museum, P.O. Box 196, Castine, ME 04421. Be sure to include name(s) of attendees and the organization you represent.
