  • Calvineers Community Thank You Event Thursday, January 23  5:00 pm - 7:30 pm Emerson Hall

The Adams School Calvin Project, a group of 7th and 8th-grade students working to save endangered North Atlantic Right Whales from extinction, invites the community to attend a special “thank-you” event at Emerson Hall in Castine on Thursday, January 23 from 5:00 to 7:30 pm. At the event, which will feature refreshments as well as presentations, the Calvineers will share information about their recent travel to Barcelona, Spain for the 2nd World Marine Mammal Conference, an international gathering of over 2,500 scientists and advocates from 95 countries discussing the most recent scientific findings and conservation issues facing the world’s marine mammal populations. The December 2019 trip was made possible through the support of many individuals and organizations in Castine and beyond. The Calvineers, their teachers and families want to show their gratitude to the community and all who donated to make this experience happen, while sharing updates with everyone who is interested in the Calvineers’ mission.

The event will open at 5:00 pm with a light buffet of Spanish-style tapas (appetizers), contributed by Calvineer families, and an opportunity for guests to engage with individual Calvineers while viewing photos from the trip and posters prepared by the students.

Presentations will begin at about 5:45 pm, with the Calvineers sharing new findings about North Atlantic Right Whales, other information learned at the World Marine Mammal Conference and an overview of their cultural experiences in Barcelona. Also on the program is local filmmaker Thom Willey, who will show a short new trailer from his latest work-in-progress, The Calvineers Movie. The program will conclude with an opportunity for general Q&A, and then the Calvineers will again be available for individual conversations with attendees.

This special event is free and open to the public.

For more information about the Calvineer Community Thank You event on January 23, contact the Adams School at 326-8608, email Calvineers@gmail.com, or visit the Calvineers Facebook page.
